A group of Vacaville residents received a special Christmas week treat when two former NFL stars showed up on the doorstep of Opportunity House.

On Sunday afternoon, Desmond Bishop, who graduated from Fairfield High School, and Stockton native Lavelle Hawkins arrived at the homeless shelter to spend some quality time with starstruck residents.

Both men also autographed a football for each child.

“They brought a smile to every face and filled the room with laughter as everyone snapped photos in front of the Christmas tree,” advised officials in a press statement. “Their kind words of encouragement and inspiration will not be forgotten by all who were there to meet these two football heroes.”

Bishop, a linebacker, played for the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers. He now serves as the defensive coordinator at Edison High School in Stockton.

Hawkins, a wide receiver, played for the Tennessee Titans, San Diego Chargers and BC Lions. He now serves as the wide receivers coach/director of football operations at Edison High School in Stockton.

O-House Executive director Colleen Berumen expressed gratitude on Christmas Day that both men took time from their busy schedules to visit her clients.

“They were just so cool and gracious,” she said.
