I’ve mumbled it randomly the last two Sundays. Now I’m stating it for real — Desmond Bishop is going to the Pro Bowl.

Hell, if he stays the course, he might even be an All Pro. He’s playing at that kind of level.

Does he play mistake-free football? No, but he’s the steadiest member of the Green Bay Packers defense. He’s a tackling machine and, no offense, but unlike A.J. Hawk to his side and Nick Barnett before him, he’s always around the damn ball.

He’s playing at a higher level than Charles Woodson, Tramon Williams or B.J. Raji.

Through six games, Bishop has 57 tackles, including 14 on Sunday, according to NFL statistics. According to the Packers coaching staff, he has 72 and had a team-high 20 last week.

Whichever total you choose to believe, Bishop is among the league leaders in the category. He currently ranks third by the NFL’s count, behind two members of the winless Indianapolis Colts.

The linebacker also has three sacks, which matches his previous career high, and a forced fumble.

Meanwhile, Hawk, the Packers $34 million man, has 28 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one middle finger flipped to the sidelines.
